Halloween has never been my “thing” – you should hear the excuses I’ve created to avoid dressing up over the years. In middle school, I dressed up as a volleyball player, a far cry from my day job as a middle school volleyball player. A few years ago yet again costumeless, I threw a Mexican blanket over my shoulders and drew a unibrow with eyeliner. Frida Kahlo would have been embarrassed to know I was telling people I was her not so spitting image.
Now that I have a little person, I’m really no better. Last year, I decided not to dress up my baby cause she was only 3 months old and that seemed a little early for her to start pretending to be someone else. But the afternoon of Halloween, I succumbed to the pressure and put her in a chambray onesie and bandana headband – I had to tell people she was Rosie the Riveter – when you have to explain the costume it really does take all the fun out of it.
I have no plans to change this year and will pull together a costume from items around the house: a tutu & some tights, making her a ballerina, an outfit most toddlers wear multiple times a week. So if you are not the mom who has been planning each year’s Halloween costumes since January, I have a few EASY, reasonably priced ideas for you.
