We do a lot of round ups around here of the best lists cause when you’re a mom, knowing what to buy and what not to waste your money on is a major time saver. But sometimes we are left looking around our house thinking “um, where did all of this stuff come from and, more importantly, who the hell is going to pick it all up?” To help purge a little space and give you that minimalist look you dream of, we’ve listed out 10 things to get rid of today.
Don’t even think twice – start small and see how a little goes a long way.
Old Bridesmaids Dresses
Hopefully if you have a sweet friend, you looked pretty in the dress and all the pictures you posed for but let’s be honest, even if the bride promised “the best part of this dress is you’ll totally wear it again” you won’t – get rid of the dress and print a picture of you and the bride. She’ll be honored to see the pic in your house and won’t even ask if you still have the chiffon gown.
Pre Baby Booty Shorts
Moms, you either fit into these shorts again or you don’t but either way no one wants to see that little bit of cheek when you bend down to pick up your 10 month old. There are plenty of appropriate length shorts out there.
Half Used Bottles of Beauty Products
I challenged myself recently to not buy new beauty products until I actually used everything in my linen closet. I failed and bought these toner pads and this beautifully packaged shampoo last week so I’m giving in and throwing out anything that is half used and older than 6 months.
Lots and Lots of Toys
I am yet to meet a kid that doesn’t have too many toys. Collect a box of toys (as long as you don’t take your child’s favorite lovey we promise they won’t even notice) and donate them to a shelter.
Burned Down Candles
They aren’t quite out but there isn’t enough wax there to last for even half of your Sunday night bath. Toss them and treat yourself to a new seasonal scent!
Your Old “Going Out” Heels
Scuffed, nicked and not to be worn to any respectable restaurant or bar you will find yourself at. Retire your “going out” heels for a new pair that goes with everything!
Old Cell Phones
There is no reason to hold onto all of these phones – clear all the data off and either sell them to Apple or donate.
Leftover Diapers and Formula
You never seem to run out of diapers at the right time – purchase a box of size 3 diapers and your child will quickly need size 4s, of course. The best way to get rid of them… bring them over to a new mama, you no longer need them and it’ll help her grow her stash!
All The Paper
Junk mail, fliers, magazines you’ll never touch again, catalogs, the list goes on – you have too much paper in your house – recycle it all.
Basically Anything You Don’t Wear
Here is the big one – go in your closet and throw out anything you don’t wear – it’s taking up room and making you feel like you “have nothing to wear” every single time you walk into the closet. A curated closet of your favorites pieces will make you feel much better and will make getting dressed in the morning so much easier. I’m always afraid that I’m going to miss things before I do a big purge but you know what? I don’t. The boot cut jeans I finally let go of last year have not been missed, not even once.
What else are you getting rid of?
